The Mast Qalandar Dancehall (MQD) proved to be a highlight of Birmingham Festival 23, drawing raving audience feedback for its high caliber and production values. Directed by Mukhtar Dar and featuring music by Simon Duggal, this creative collaboration lived up to its promise, delivering an unforgettable experience.
Taking place on August 5th from 7pm to 9pm in Centenary Square, MQD brought together over 30 talented artists, musicians, and dancers from Pakistan and Birmingham’s diverse communities. The event, offered free to all, served as a celebration of Birmingham’s vibrant culture, blending infectious African beats, pulsating Caribbean rhythms, sublime subcontinental melodies, and the unique spirit of the city itself.
